And it is precisely from this concept that Fotonica, the festival on light in art evolves, which is now in its second edition and this year takes place from December 7 to 15, 2018 at MACRO Asilo - Museum of Contemporary Art in Rome.

Fotonica is a free festival that aims to investigate art forms related to the element of light in the contemporary context. In order to consolidate the practice of networking and making system in a field of artistic investigation among the most important of the contemporary, the festival is realized in collaboration with national and international partners. The initiative is part of the Contemporaneamente Roma 2018 program promoted by Roma Capitale Assessorato alla Crescita culturale and the Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali and in collaboration with Siae.

A unique festival in the Capitoline scene that boasts an intense and rich programming: 27 artists shape the most diverse facets of Audio Visual Digital Arts and make them usable to an increasingly wide audience. The beating heart of the project are the Audio Video performances in collaboration with Live Cinema Festival and Zsolnay Light Festival and the Audio Video Installations with Athens Digital Art Festival, Patchlab, Video Mapping Mexico and Digital Error.

On the NetArt front, organized in collaboration with Shockart.net, it is possible to visit interactively the Net Paintings web art exhibition created by Shockart.net in 2005. Within Fotonica there are also electronic music DJ sets by Parallel Visions Movement flanked in the video part by VJ Sets curated by LPM Live Performers Meeting. Fotonica has also devised a large space dedicated to approaching and deepening theoretical and practical understanding of the world of audio-video and digital art thanks to lectures, workshops on issues and tools pertain to digital and visual arts with Fusolab 2.0 and children’s workshops by Athens Digital Art Festival and KidsBit, which aim to bring the youngest children closer to digital culture through creative tools and stimuli.
