The voices of the nine Muses resonate in the Domus Aurea for an unprecedented experience

From Sept. 23 to Oct. 9, 2022, the Colosseum Archaeological Park is organizing nine guided tours in the Domus Aurea culminating in the experience ofperformance art under the sign of the contemporary in the Octagonal Hall.

Moisai 2022. Contemporary Voices in Domus Aurea, this is the title of the unique initiative so far and never before experienced, aims to immerse the public in the places of the imperial residence that best reflect Nero’s love for art, an aspect rarely investigated. Starting from the simulacra of the statuary cycle of the Muses, made for the emperor and preserved, in fragments, inside the Domus, a guided tour will culminate in the experience of performance art, conjugated in all its different shades and in the sign of the contemporary.

Promoted and organized by the Colosseum Archaeological Park with artistic direction by PAV, the project is divided into nine encounters, each dedicated to one of the nine Muses of myth. Each evening, a new artist will release the song of a different Muse, making herself its contemporary spokesperson in a very ancient gesture, loose and accomplished in the rooms of the Sala Ottagona, created by architects Severus and Caelere in response to Nero’s visionary project.

Tickets: Full 10 euros + 1 euro booking fee; reduced 6 euros + 1 euro booking fee for children between 7 and 12 years of age, teachers of schools of all levels; MIC employees; Colosseum Archaeological Park Membership Card holders; groups (adults and students) of 23 people and intermediate customers; students enrolled in the academies of fine arts, degree courses in architecture, conservation of cultural heritage (see MiC list for free admission to state museums) or corresponding institutions of the European Union by showing the certificate of enrollment for the current academic year.
