2200 years of history of the Via Emilia told by Anas in a major exhibition in Reggio Emilia

Through July 1, 2018, the Reggio Emilia Civic Museums present to the public the 2,200-year history of the Via Emilia, from 187 B.C. to the present.

From April 27 to July 1, 2018, the Reggio Emilia Civic Museums are offering a major archaeological exhibition, titled"On the Road. Via Emilia 187 BC."

Showcasing 400 artifacts, the exhibition aims to present to the public the ancient history and actuality of the Via Emilia.

On the occasion of Anas’s 90th anniversary, the company itself has created a photo exhibition dedicated to the Via Emilia in the years of the post-World War II economic boom: bicycles, cars, motorcycles and horses that traveled the famous road are noted. The whole area was reflected in a road that itself became a landscape and a place of construction, with workers working, men in suits on the doorstep , cantoniere houses for the transformation of the city.

"A precious occasion to celebrate the fundamental role Anas has played in the modernization of the country, influencing its economic and cultural development," say Anas Chairman and CEO Ennio Cascetta and Gianni Vittorio Armani.

The Via Emilia was commissioned by Consul Marcus Aemilius Lepidus for his legionnaires to travel along in 187 BC.
At that time it represented the road used by the army to defend and expand the borders of the Empire, but also one of the first urban experiments of antiquity, as pointed out by the director of the Civic Museums of Reggio Emilia, Elisabetta Farioli.

Today it represents an axis of Italian mobility and logistics: according to Anas surveys, an average of 136,000 cars and 9200 trucks cross it every day.

The exhibition is curated by Luigi Malnati, Roberto Macellari and Italo Rota.
