Around Ingres and Hayez: the Brera Art Gallery's 7th Dialogue celebrates the museum's refurbishment

At the conclusion of three years of refurbishing the 38 rooms of the Brera Art Gallery, the Milanese museum is celebrating with the opening of the 7th Dialogue, entitled"Around Ingres and Hayez. Different Looks on Mid-Nineteenth-Century Women," scheduled from Oct. 4, 2018 to Jan. 20, 2019.

The protagonist of the event will be the Portrait of Teresa Manzoni Stampa Borri, a masterpiece by Francesco Hayez kept in the Pinacoteca di Brera, which will be placed in dialogue with three other guest masterpieces: the Portrait of Madame Gonse by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres from the Musèe Ingres in Montauban, the Portrait of Selene Taccioli Ruga by Francesco Hayez, and the Portrait of Anna Maria Virginia Buoni Bartolini, a plaster bust made by Lorenzo Bartolini; the latter come from private collections.

The objective of this 7th Dialogue is to provide the public with a reflection on the female figure of the mid-19th century through prestigious masterpieces made by great artists of that era.

The Dialogue is curated by Isabella Marelli, Fernando Mazzocca and Carlo Sisi.

The new Café Fernanda, dedicated to director Fernanda Wittgens, also opened its doors for the occasion.

Hours: Tuesday through Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 7:15 p.m. Every first and third Thursday of the month from 8:30 a.m. to 10:15 p.m. Thursday, October 4, 2018, at the opening of the 7th Dialogue, free admission with evening extension from 8:30 a.m. to 10:15 p.m.

Tickets: Full 10 euros, reduced 7 euros. Every first Thursday of the month 2 euros; every third Thursday of the month 3 euros.
