From October 1, 2026, to January 31, 2027, the Atipografia gallery in Arzignano, in the province of Vicenza, presents *Minuetto*, an exhibition that brings together the works of Mats Bergquist and Angela Glajcar in a dialogue built around rhythm, measure, and the generative power of emptiness.
The exhibition marks Angela Glajcar’s first show at Atipografia, following the artist’s recent addition to the gallery’s roster of represented artists. Although they work with different media and materials, Bergquist and Glajcar share an artistic approach in which the artwork is defined by its relationship with its surroundings. In their practices, emptiness is understood as an element capable of creating distances, connections, and tensions, contributing to the construction of space and the perception of the gaze.
The exhibition’s title evokes the minuet, a musical form and dance based on a regulated sequence of steps. This principle finds a parallel in the works of the two artists, where rhythm arises from the alternation between full and empty spaces, matter and light, presence and suspension.
Mats Bergquist’s work focuses on monochromatic surfaces achieved through a slow process of layering and subtraction. Plaster is applied and then removed, while the encaustic finish, repeated multiple times, results in works in which the passage of time is imprinted in the material. The composition also involves the installation: the distance between the works, the gaps, and the portions of wall left empty become an integral part of the visual construction. In *Sentiero* (2015/2016), the succession of elements further introduces a physical and temporal dimension, transforming the viewer’s path through the space into a measure of seeing.
Angela Glajcar, on the other hand, works with paper, subjecting it to processes of tearing, layering, and recomposition. Her *Terforations* are sculptures in which the lightness of the material coexists with a distinct plastic presence. The sheets, arranged in rigorous sequences, create cavities, openings, and depths through which light passes. The regular structure meets the unpredictability of the tear, creating a balance between modular order and organic elements, one that shifts depending on the viewer’s vantage point.
In the works of Bergquist and Glajcar, silence is an intrinsic quality of form: in the former, it emerges through the measurement of distances and the concentration of the surface; in the latter, through the openings in the material and the passage of light. Minuetto thus unfolds as a dialogue based on intervals, correspondences, and pauses, where the rhythm of the exhibition takes shape in the transition from one work to another and from one material to another.
