At MACTE in Termoli, Renato Leotta's solo exhibition dedicated to the poetic narrative of the beach

Renato Leotta brings his solo exhibition to MACTE in Termoli as the winner of the exhibition prize of the LXII Termoli Prize 2020-2021. It will be dedicated to the beach as a "long indefinite margin in which forces act to set poetic narrative in motion."

Winner of the exhibition prize of the LXII Premio Termoli 2020-2021, Renato Leotta (Turin, 1982) will be featured at MACTE Museum of Contemporary Art in Termoli with his solo exhibition entitled La Soglia, curated by Caterina Riva.

One year after it was awarded, the prize brings the artist’s project to the museum venue from Oct. 20, 2022 to Jan. 29, 2023, dedicated to “that space of time between land sea and sky,” as he puts it, to the beach understood as "a long indefinite margin, in which forces act to set poetic narrative in motion." Through a series of filmic and sculptural works displayed in the exhibition, Leotta proposes “a narrative through images, sensations and works, of landings, departures and stasis in which time and the self become one.” These are works that take the audience to an elsewhere in which there is a universal co-presence of rituals, symbols, and gestures.

For the occasion, Leotta will spend time in the vicinity of the Adriatic arm of the sea between the city of Termoli and the Tremiti Islands to make a work on site, and he will select some works from the Premio Termoli collection to be exhibited in conjunction with his solo show.

Renato Leotta lives between Turin and Acireale. He is among the artists of the Istanbul Biennial 2022 and his solo and group exhibitions include: Sun at Castello Di Rivoli (2020); Garden of Earthly Delights at Gropius Bau, Berlin and Magazzino Art Foundation, New York (2019); Eine Sandsammlung at Kunsthalle St. Gallen, Matrix for actual time at MAC São Paulo and Manifesta 12 in Palermo (2018). Leotta is among the founders of Cripta 747 in Turin and Istituto Sicilia in Acireale.
