A major exhibition dedicated to the art of Hokusai and his heirs is underway at the Ara Pacis Museum in Rome until January 14, 2018.

About two hundred works (one hundred for each rotation of the exhibition for conservation reasons) from the Chiba City Museum of Art, the Edoardo Chiossone Museum of Oriental Art in Genoa, and Japanese collections, such as the Uragami Mitsuru Collection, will be on display.

The exhibition is divided into five sections: Destinations Not to Be Missed, in which his most famous works are exhibited, including the “Great Wave,” the Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, the Eight Views of Omi, the three volumes on the Hundred Views of Fuji, and a scroll painting of Mount Fuji, presented for the first time in Italy; Fashionable Beauty with portraits of teahouse women and courtesans; Fortune and Good Luck with depictions of the folk deities of fortune; Capturing the Essence of Nature: Paintings on Scroll on the Theme of Nature and Animals; Manga and Manuals for Learning, in which the complete series of Hokusai’s 15 volumes of Manga is displayed.

The exhibition is curated by Rossella Menegazzo and is organized by MondoMostre Skira and Zètema Progetto Cultura.

Hours: Daily from 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Tickets: Full 11 euros, reduced 9 euros.
