From May 14 to September 21, 2025, the Museo di Roma in Trastevere is hosting the exhibition "Tina Modotti. Woman, Photographer, Militant. A Life Between Two Worlds," which aims to highlight her transition from photographer to politically engaged figure.

From May 14 to September 21, 2025, the Museo di Roma in Trastevere aims to offer an in-depth portrait of the final phase of Tina Modotti’s life, highlighting her transition from photographer to politically engaged figure, with the exhibition Tina Modotti. Woman, Photographer, Militant. A Life between Two Worlds.

The exhibition is promoted by Roma Capitale, Assessorato alla Cultura, Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali and organized by the association Storia e Memoria Aps of Albano Laziale in collaboration with the Secretariat of Culture of the Government of Mexico, the archives of the National Photo Library of INAH.

About sixty works are on display, but it also uses letters, texts, documents and articles to outline Modotti’s complex identity as an artist, actress and activist, a cultural bridge between Italy and Mexico. The photographs in the exhibition recount Tina Modotti’s journey as a witness to Mexican social reality, her integration into the local cultural context, her emotional and creative ties with the artistic milieu of the time, as well as her growing involvement in the Mexican Communist Party. The exhibition concludes with the last shots taken during his exile in Berlin in 1930.
