Seen up close: the art world photographed by Aurelio Amendola is on display until September 19, 2021 in Locarno, Switzerland.

Appointment dedicated to art photography that with Aurelio Amendola, the protagonist of the new exhibition at the Casa Rusca Museum in Locarno, which will welcome the public until September 19, 2021.

The exhibition entitled Visti da vicino (Seen Up Close ) aims to pay tribute to a man who dedicated his life to the representation of the art world. Through a selection of 79 photographs, visitors will have the opportunity to appreciate one of the most interesting and significant photographic accounts ever made of the works of major Italian and international artistic talents, immortalized with a click of his inseparable Hasselblad, always strictly in analog.

Aurelio Amendola(Pistoia, 1938) throughout his long career has portrayed the most important exponents of the twentieth-century avant-garde, including De Chirico, Lichtenstein and Warhol. A passion, that for the art of the 20th century, which also acquires a human value due to the photographer’s personal acquaintances with some artists. Friendship relationships that have resulted in important monographic works dedicated to modern sculptors and painters including Marini, Burri, Manzù and Kounelis.

One of the most original aspects of Amendola’s photographic skills concerns his work on sculpture, particularly his interpretation of Michelangelo Buonarroti. The public will be able to admire, for example, exclusive shots of Michelangelo’s three Pietà: the Rondanini kept in the Castello Sforzesco in Milan, the Pietà of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence and the famous Vatican Pietà kept in St. Peter’s Basilica. This is another reason why the exhibition itinerary in the last two rooms of the Museum is particularly fascinating: an authentic emotional experience that allows visitors to penetrate Michelangelo’s work with their eyes and minds and savor to the full the main sculptures of the great Renaissance master.
