From Jan. 20 to March 4, the Ducal Palace in Massa is hosting the exhibition 'Unreal Reality' featuring the surreal photos of Bart Herreman.

From Jan. 20 to March 4, the Palazzo Ducale in Massa is showcasing "The Unreal Reality, " an exhibition by Belgian photographer Bart Herreman. The exhibition is the first event in the new 2018 exhibition cycle on “contemporary art communication,” promoted by the City of Massa under the artistic direction of Mauro Daniele Lucchesi of the Quattro Coronati association and with the collaboration of the Fondazione Terre Medicee in Seravezza (Lu ) and IBagency.

“Bart Herreman,” Mauro Daniele Lucchesi explains, “with his photographs filled with extraordinary realization skills, reveals to us his imaginary world made of impossible cohabitations, bewildered men and nonchalant animals, stimulating or rather making the ’I’ emerge from the ’self’ of the viewer the unreal reality, to stimulate the dormant imagination, to impose on the gaze the representation of something beyond reality, a kind of endless journey with no limits of time and place.”

“In every composition,” continues the artistic director of the Four Crowned Association, “there is always something surprising, contrived and at the same time revealing. Each of his works has the ability to represent the dreams, visions and fantasies of the viewer. In front of Bart Herreman’s works, the extraordinary technical realization skills take a back seat to the message the artist wants to send us, a way of life, a ’philosophy’ that pushes us to transcend our limits, to pursue seemingly unreachable goals, to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles.”

These are works from which the lessons of the great masters of surrealism, from Miró to Ernst, from Magritte to Dalí, unmistakably shine through. Works that therefore play with images, transform them, created unforeseen and unpredictable associations, leaving it up to the viewer to decide what to observe.

The exhibition will be open Tuesday through Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m., and is set up in the Salone degli Specchi and Salone degli Svizzeri of the Ducal Palace. Free admission. For information you can log on to the City of Massa website.
