The Villa Bassi House Museum in Abano Terme will host anextensive retrospective exhibition from May 17 to December 8, 2019, entitled Eve Arnorld. All about women - All about women, dedicated entirely to the famous and original female portraits taken by Eve Arnold (Philadelphia, 1912 - London, 2012. This is the first Italian retrospective on this theme dedicated to the great American photographer.

Together with Inge Morath, she was one of the first female photographers to be admitted to the Paris-based Magnum agency.Eve Arnold joined Magnum in 1951 thanks to Henri Cartier-Bresson, who was impressed by the photographer’s New York shots. Images of parades in the African American neighborhood of Harlem.

The following year, Arnold moved with her family to Long Island, where she produced one of her most famous reportages, A baby’s first five minutes, in which she chronicled the first five minutes of life for babies born at Mother Hospital in Port Jefferson.

He began hanging out with Hollywood celebrities following the substitution of photographer Ernst Haas, who was to do a reportage on Marlene Dietrich: in 1950 his friendship with Malylin Monroe was born; in 1960 he documented the filming of the movie Misfits with Marylin Monroe and Clark Gable.

When he moved to London in 1962, he also devoted himself to travel reportage, particularly in the Middle and Far East. Between 1969 and 1971 he produced the project Behind the Veil, to witness the condition of women in the Middle East.

“Paradoxically, I think the photographer has to be an amateur at heart, someone who loves the craft. He must have a healthy constitution, a strong stomach, a distinct will, quick reflexes and a sense of adventure. And be willing to take risks,” is how Eve Arnold defined her craft. Her great ability was to make herself an interpreter of femininity as a "woman among women."

The exhibition is curated by Marco Minuz.
