Exclusive to Italy, David Hockney's 82 portraits in Venice

Until October 22, 2017 at Ca' Pesaro in Venice, the 82 portraits created by contemporary artist David Hockney are on exclusive display.

Until October 22, 2017, the International Gallery of Modern Art at Ca’ Pesaro in Venice presents the first exhibition of paintings by David Hockney, one of the most accomplished contemporary artists, on display.

Exhibited exclusively in Italy for the exhibition"David Hockney 82 portraits and 1 still life" will be eighty-two portraits of people who are part of the artist’s daily life and people who belong to Hockney’s artistic circle in Los Angeles, such as gallerists, critics, curators, artists.

A curiosity: the time he takes to make each portrait is always three days, or “twenty hours of exposure” as Hockney calls it. During the making, the subject-model sits in a chair with the same neutral background behind him.

The result of the eighty-two portraits is to possess, in the same format, a collection of types and characters, a visual essay on the human form and condition that goes beyond classifications of gender, identity and nationality.

The exhibition is curated by Edith Devaney.
