From November 17, 2018, to March 3, 2019, the exhibition 'Jean Dubuffet, Art at Play. Matter and Spirit 1943-1985'.

The next exhibition at Palazzo Magnani in Reggio Emilia has been announced: it will be a major exhibition on one of the most important artists of the 20th century, Jean Dubuffet (Le Havre, 1901 - Paris, 1985). The exhibition, entitled Jean Dubuffet, Art at Play. Matter and Spirit 1943-1985 will be held from Nov. 17, 2018 to March 3, 2019, and will highlight aspects of his life as an artist, theorist and collector, with more than 100 works including paintings, sculptures, graphics and artist’s books.

The exhibition will be curated by Martina Mazzotta and Frédéric Jaeger. There will also be a section devoted to his activities as a scholar (Dubuffet was in fact the first to introduce the concept of art brut, which indicates those particular productions made by amateur artists working outside the conventional canons of art and without any cultural pretensions) and collector. The works will come mainly from the Fondation Dubuffet and the Musée des Arts Décoratif in Paris, but also from museums and private collections in France, Italy, Switzerland and Austria.
