From Monet and the Impressionists to Frida Kahlo, a year of exhibitions in Trieste


The city of Trieste presents its program of major exhibitions 2022: appointments with a major exhibition on video games and reviews on Monet and the Impressionists and Frida Kahlo.

The city of Trieste is preparing to welcome visitors and tourists with a calendar of major exhibitions scheduled through July 2022: from VIDEOGAMES! (through Feb. 20, 2022) to Monet and the Impressionists in Normandy (Jan. 15-May 22, 2022) to Frida Kahlo. The Chaos Within (March 12-July 23, 2022). These appointments are also meant to be an opportunity to discover Trieste and indulge in a weekend in Italy’s most Central European city.

1. VIDEOGAMES!

The spacious spaces of the Salone degli Incanti hosts what is the first major international exhibition on the world of video games. From its origins to the contemporary era, video games have evolved from simple pastimes to an integral part of society. The exhibition is divided into 18 chronological stations that take the visitor through the key stages of this evolution-from the first experiments in the 1950s to the boom of arcades, to the most modern consoles and the games that made history-interactive films, advertisements from the period, and unique pieces. With a simple, engaging and modern presentation, the exhibition provides a comprehensive view of video games with different educational learning paths, depending on age and knowledge level, and allows the public to play with devices, old and new.

2. Monet and the Impressionists in Normandy

January 15 to May 22, 2022 | Revoltella Museum

More than 70 works by the most famous painters will be the protagonists of the exhibition Monet and the Impressionists in Normandy set up at the Revoltella Museum, an important historical building with art gallery located in the heart of Trieste. The exhibition includes some famous works from the Impressionist season such as Camille on the beach (1870) and Boats on the Étretat beach (1883) by Monet, or as Sunset, view of Guernesey (1893) by Renoir.

3. Frida Kahlo. The Chaos Within

March 12 to July 23, 2022 | Salon of Enchantments

With spring, the Salone degli Incanti in Trieste reopens its spaces for the exhibition Frida Kahlo. The Chaos Within: a photographic and interactive journey with a strong sensory impact that aims to engage visitors in tracing the life, history and creativity of this extraordinary artist through the use of multimedia. In addition to the artworks offered in Modlight format, the collection also features hundreds of personal photographs, artist portraits, letters, diary pages, clothing and jewelry inspired by the artist, for a 360-degree journey into Frida’s universe. In addition, it will also be possible to appreciate the most representative corners of the interior of her historic home in Mexico City, Casa Azul, now home to the museum dedicated to her.
