Genoa, a port terminal becomes an exhibition space for one night: the Rossetti Gallery experiment

Elisabetta Rossetti's Rossetti Arte Contemporanea presented Silvio Porzionato's new BlueSeries collection in the former Derna factory in Genoa, transforming a port terminal into an immersive space of painting, music and theater.

Genoa hosted an event last Friday that subverted the traditional boundaries of contemporary art, transforming a port terminal into anengaging exhibition space. Elisabetta Rossetti’s Rossetti Arte Contemporanea held an evening Out of the Blue in the vast former Derna factory, dedicated to the presentation of the new BlueSeries collection of paintings by artist Silvio Porzionato (Moncalieri, 1971).

As Ship.Mag reported, the building, a cathedral of industry with wide aisles and reinforced concrete columns, housed boiler production for Ansaldo until the 1980s. Today it is managed by the Messina Intermodal Terminal, which uses it for handling coils, plant parts and bulky cargo. The willingness of the Messina family, in particular Ignazio Messina, made it possible to combine port activity with an artistic event of international significance, despite bureaucratic complexities and uncertainties related to the concession of the area. A decisive role in the realization of the event was also played by the president of the Port System Authority, Matteo Paroli, who supported the compatibility of the initiative with the terminal’s activities. Out of the Blue thus presented the BlueSeries paintings by Porzionato, known for his presence in international galleries. The collection, inspired by the masterpieces of the great masters of art history, binds expressive intensity and pictorial refinement, offering a personal and recognizable stylistic signature.

For the occasion, architecture firm Caarpa set up the shed in a way that created a path that integrated visual art, music and theater. Simona Finessi ’s artistic direction coordinated the event, which included a DJ set by Andy (Bluvertigo) and a theatrical performance of La Bohème by Compagnia Filro Opera Production. The choice of location was a crucial element in building the cultural experience. The former Derna factory, with its monumental proportions and industrial atmosphere, made it possible to create a novel dimension for the exhibition, far from the usual city galleries. Indeed, the initiative highlighted how spaces traditionally used for business can become vehicles for contemporary art, if supported by a collaboration between private entities and institutions.

Porzionato’s works, which have already been exhibited in galleries such as Oliver Cole Gallery in Miami, Lgm Galeria in Bogota, ZK Gallery in San Francisco, ArtSpace8 in Chicago, Galeries Montmartre in Paris, Clarendon Fine Art in London, Artion Gallery in Athens and Artcatto in Portugal, consolidate the artist’s reputation internationally.
