In Milan, the first solo exhibition of Stefano Cescon, winner of Premio Cramum 2021

Through Dec. 22, 2022, the Gaggenau DesignElementi Hub in Milan is hosting the first solo exhibition dedicated to Stefano Cescon, the 2021 winner of the eighth edition of the Cramum Prize.

The Gaggenau DesignElementi Hub in Milan is hosting until Dec. 22, 2022 Terra! the first solo exhibition dedicated to Stefano Cescon, winner in 2021 of the eighth edition of the Cramum Prize. The exhibition, curated by Sabino Maria Frassà, is the third stage of the Materiabilia art project promoted by Gaggenau and Cramum.

It is the first solo exhibition in Milan of the winner of the eighth edition of the Cramum Prize, who invented a new technique that blends painting with sculpture thanks to wax and kerosene. Gaggenau’s rooms are thus populated with sculpture-paintings that project into space and offer the viewer the illusion of being in front of mining concretions. After years of an artistic career under the banner of a material and at times informal painting style, artist Stefano Cescon has reversed course to embark on a new path to rethink the very role of painting.

"Earth! is the culmination of Stefano Cescon’s odyssey in contemporary art and celebrates the artist’s landing on a new artistic lexicon that unites past and present and is based on the fusion of different languages,“ the curator explains. ”Along the walls of the ’wonder rooms’ of Gaggenau’s Milanese space, the artist presents an unprecedented production: the wax and kerosene sculpture-paintings, for the first time in large format, are projected into space. The pictorial gesture almost disappears, replaced by a sedimentation of colors that offers the viewer the illusion of being in front of layered mineral concretions characterized by unexpected collapses of color between layers. Cescon’s art thus lives in the incessant search for balance between technique and creative flair, control and unpredictability. Christopher Columbus wrote in his diary that one cannot cross the ocean unless one has the courage to lose sight of the shore. For Stefano Cescon, art is all this: it has meant traveling, discovering a new land and making it home. He has managed to go beyond his own Pillars of Hercules and has steadily and consistently continued to navigate in a new direction: getting rid of labels and distinctions between artistic fields (painting and sculpture, two-dimensionality) by uniting the past (wax) with the present (kerosene derived from hydrocarbons)."
