In Venice the first anthological exhibition in Italy of Luigi Pericle

Fondazione Querini Stampalia will host the first anthological exhibition in Italy of Luigi Pericle from May 11 to novembtre 24, 2019.

The Fondazione Querini Stampalia in Venice will host the first anthological exhibition in Italy of the Italian-Swiss painter Luigi Pericle (Basel 1916-Ascona 2001) from May 11 to November 24, 2019.

The exhibition, titled Luigi Pericle (1916-2001)_Beyond the visible, will display to the public fifty works and a relevant number of documents selected to present theunpublished work of a master of twentieth-century painting and to enhance an artist who has been restored to art history as a painter of great quality.

Amultifaceted artist: he was a gifted cartoonist (in 1951 he created Max, the marmot protagonist of the textless comic strip of the same name), painter, scholar, intellectual; he was influenced by theosophy and esoteric doctrines and, at the end of 1965, suddenly decided to give up his career to devote himself solely to his painting and esoteric studies, retiring to private life. Re-emerging from oblivion, the story of Louis Pericles is at the center of a critical and philological recovery with an extensive project of study, restoration, preservation and enhancement of his artistic and documentary heritage (after his death, for fifteen years, his entire story was forgotten in an uninhabited house).

The exhibition route aims to reconstruct through the works on display and a selection of documents his different interests, the various moments of his aesthetic research. An itinerary that will unfold throughout theScarpa Area, on the ground floor of the Fondazione Querini Stampalia.

The retrospective is curated by Chiara Gatti, in collaboration with Marco Pasi, Michele Tavola, and Luca Bochicchio.
