Luca Gilli's photographs in dialogue with the paintings of Antonio Calderara

The Calderara Foundation presents Luca Gilli's exhibition Sinestesie: the latter's photographs will be placed in dialogue with Antonio Calderara's paintings.

The Antonio and Carmela Calderara Foundation, in Vacciago di Ameno (Novara), presents in collaboration with Paola Sosio Contemporary Art the exhibition Sinestesie di Luca Gilli.

The exhibition, curated by Angela Madesani, aims to juxtapose in the same environment of Antonio Calderara’s House Museum the latter’s paintings with Luca Gilli’s photographs.
The paintings by Calderara, a protagonist of20th-century art, will be in dialogue with some of the Emilian photographer’s past works, such as Blank, Un musée après, Incipit, and with works created in situ for this project.

Two researches that placed in comparison are akin, because although they use different tools they work on the threshold between the visible and the invisible.

As the curator states, Gilli’s works "are silent works in which white, emptiness dominate, but, more often than not, the punctum is color: a speck, a streak. Moving dots that become a pretext for a journey within the work."
These are works intended to make the viewer reflect on the small details that are often not paid attention to.

The protagonists of the exhibition are matter and light. “The works are common questions about purity, essence, the very sense of making art [...] Luca Gilli in his shots at the Foundation has not photographed the master’s paintings, rather he has captured details, particulars, which manage to render the flavor of that place, so imbued with Antonio Calderara’s presence, his taste, his choices, giving rise to visual synaesthesia,” adds the curator.

The exhibition is on view from June 22 to September 8, 2019.

Hours: Tuesday through Friday from 3 to 7 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to noon and 3 to 7 p.m.
