Palazzo Ducale in Urbino dedicates a monographic exhibition to Raffaellino del Colle, a faithful follower of Raphael

Celebrations for the 500th anniversary of Raphael's death open with a monographic exhibition dedicated to Raphael del Colle, one of Raphael's most faithful followers.

In the Sale del Castellare of the Ducal Palace in Urbino, the exhibition Da Raffaello. Raffaellino del Colle, curated by Vittorio Sgarbi.

A monographic exhibition dedicated to Raffaellino del Colle (Sansepolcro, 1495 - 1566), one of the most faithful and intelligent followers of Raphael (Urbino, 1483 - Rome, 1520). This exhibition in fact kicks off the celebrations in Urbino for the 500th anniversary of Raphael Sanzio’s death.

The exhibition intends to retrace the activity of the master from Biturgia who was a disciple of the “divin pittore” and who, although he was largely active in the Marche region, is in need of historical reappraisal and greater popularization today. For the first time, some of his most significant works from churches and museums in Rome, Cagli, Mercatello sul Metauro, Perugia, Piobbico, Sansepolcro, Sant’Angelo in Vado, Urbania, and Urbino are being displayed together.

The exhibition is introduced by two works by Raphael from the collection of theAccademia Nazionale di San Luca in Rome: an almost unpublished tablet depicting the Madonna and Child and the detached fresco with Putto reggifestone.

From Raphael. Raffaellino del Colle is promoted by the Municipality of Urbino with the contribution of the Marche Region and the National Committee for the Celebration of the Five Hundredth Anniversary of the Death of Raphael and is theopening event of the new cycle of exhibitions spread between Urbino, Fano and Pesaro scheduled between spring and summer, entitled Exhibitions for Leonardo and for Raphael, as part of the celebrations promoted by the MIBAC for the 500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci in 2019 and of Raphael Sanzio in 2020.
