Rome, at the Bianco Contemporaneo space the new solo exhibition of Lamberto Pignotti

Lamberto Pignotti, a great exponent of verbo-visual art, is coming to Rome with a new solo exhibition, "A data da destinarsi," from Oct. 14 to Nov. 14, 2022 at the Bianco Contemporaneo space.

From Oct. 14 to Nov. 14, 2022, the Bianco Contemporaneo space at Via Reno 18/a in Rome is hosting a new solo exhibition by Lamberto Pignotti (Florence, 1926) entitled A data da destinarsi, and curated by Lorenzo Canova. It is a new project inspired by our recent collective experience, consisting of a series of 19 photos cut out from newspapers and 19 poems dedicated to them. These are works focused on the relationship between reality and virtuality, history and meta-history, vicissitudes and vice-vicitudes.

Also on display are a series of 19 historical works by Lamberto Pignotti, spanning a time axis from the 1960s to 2019. A cross-section of history represented through words and images, the identifying mark of the artist’s verbo-visual and synaesthetic writing.

Pignotti, born in 1926, considered one of the fathers of visual poetry, is one of the most authentic voices in the Italian neo-avant-garde scene of the 1960s-1970s. In the early 1960s he conceived and theorized the first forms of “technological poetry” and “visual poetry.” In 1963 he gives birth, with Miccini, Chiari and other artists and critics, to the “Gruppo 70” and participates a few months later in the formation of the “Gruppo 63” in Palermo. His artistic work proceeds by relating signs and codes of different origins: linguistic, visual, hearing, taste, smell, touch, behavior, performance. As a visual and linear poet he is included in many Italian and foreign anthologies and is covered in various nonfiction and reference books. To this day he is active both as an artist and as an intellectual, invited to lectures and performances dedicated to him and his synaesthetic theories of which he is a precursor.

The exhibition is accompanied by an artist’s catalog/folder in a limited edition of 50 copies: a trunk with photos of the works on display along with the curator’s critical text and the artist’s biography. For information visit the Bianco Contemporaneo website.
