Forty years after the last major exhibition dedicated to him, the Mart in Rovereto will host from December 6, 2025 to May 3, 2026 the extensive monographic exhibition Luigi Bonazza. Tra Secessione e Déco, focusing on the Trentino artist Luigi Bonazza.
Trained in the context of the Viennese Secession, Bonazza was one of the leading figures in the vibrant cultural environment of the early 20th century, in the Trentino region that served as a meeting point between different but closely interconnected artistic traditions.
The exhibition, curated by Alessandra Tiddia, presents three hundred works through which it is intended to follow the artist’s entire human and creative journey: from the youthful works created in Vienna, among which The Legend of Orpheus stands out, to the works documenting his connection with Gabriele d’Annunzio, from the portraits of Cesare Battisti and other irredentist martyrs to the late landscapes, painted among lakes and mountains in Trentino. The exhibition concludes with a selection of works by other Trentino artists who, like Bonazza, adopted an expressive language capable of blending Italic themes with a style influenced by Nordic art, such as Giorgio Wenter Martini, Luigi Ratini, Francesco Trentini, Dario Wolf and Stefano Zuech.
