The Tower of the Castle of the Bishops of Luni in Castelnuovo Magra will host from April 6 to June 30, 2019 the exhibition Pepi Merisio. The Game, a project by Raffaella Ferrari curated by Elisabetta Sacconi.

Pepi Merisio (Caravaggio, 1931) is considered one of the most important Italian photographers. Trained as a self-taught photographer, he began photographing in 1947 and won numerous prestigious awards in Italy and abroad. In the 1950s he collaborated with the Touring Club Italiano and the magazines Camera, Réalité, Photo, Maxima, Pirelli Look, Famiglia Cristiana, Stern, and Paris Match, and in 1962 he became a professional photographer. He began a collaboration with Epoca, the most important Italian magazine for images. In 1979 he completed a black-and-white shoot for Polaroid, now housed at the Collection Polaroid International in Boston. In 1982, Editoriale Fabbri welcomed him in the series I grandi fotografi; in 1988 he was named Maestro della Fotografia Italiana by the Federazione Italiana Associazioni Fotografiche FIAF and, nine years later, the same association dedicated a monograph to him in the series Grandi autori. In 1989 he represented Italy in the volume commemorating 75 years of Leica, and in 2011 he was invited to the 54th Venice Biennale.

Therefore, about fifty black-and-white and color images of various sizes that trace the theme of play in his photographic production will be exhibited at the Castelnuovo Magra review. The shots featured were taken between 1950 and 1989 and were lent directly from thePepi Merisio Archive.
