One of northern Italy’s most important museums, the Ricci Oddi Gallery of Modern Art, is looking for a new director. The museum is among the most important in Italy for nineteenth- and twentieth-century art: it was founded by collector Giuseppe Ricci Oddi and houses paintings of considerable interest including one of only three paintings by Gustav Klimt to be found in Italy, the Portrait of a Lady stolen in 1917 and found in 2019, which will soon be on public display.

The public selection will be by qualifications and interview. The employment relationship will be governed by an individual fixed-term contract for a period of four years, in accordance with the provisions of the regulations on temporary employment. The expected annual salary is 55,000.00 euros gross per year. The activities that the director will be responsible for: 1. coordinates and monitors the cultural and scientific planning and activities of the Gallery, including the organization of exhibitions and shows, as well as the activities of study, enhancement, communication and promotion of the Gallery’s heritage; 2. takes care of the cultural project of the Gallery, making it a vital, inclusive place, capable of promotingthe development of culture; 3. ensures high quality standards in the organization of public activities and communication, educational and technological innovation, encouraging the active participation of the public and ensuring effective knowledge experiences; 4. is the consignee of the Gallery’s collections, is responsible for them to the owner institution, and is accountable to the relevant control and protection bodies; 5. communicates the Gallery’s activities through traditional channels and new communication platforms; 6. fosters and maintains relations with national and International Institutions, aimed not only at lending works, study and research, but above all at positioning the Gallery in an international context; 7. arranges for the loan of cultural goods from the collections within its competence for exhibitions or displays in the national or foreign territory; 8. promotes the provision of funding and liberal donations from private individuals in support of the Gallery’s activities, including through special agreements with the institutes and places of culture he local authorities; to this end, promotes awareness projects and specific fundraising campaigns, also through collective funding methods; 9. promotesand/or carries out activities and initiatives of dissemination, education, training and research related to the heritage of the gallery; 10. directs the staff of the gallery.

To participate in the call for applications, a master’s degree in art history or equivalent (specialist degree in art history, old-school degree in Conservation of Cultural Heritage, Disciplines of Arts, Music and Performing Arts, Humanities, Languages and Civilizations oriental civilizations), postgraduate degree or PhD or two-year university master’s degree or equivalent, proven professional experience and qualifications (at least five years as conservator or director of public or private museums or galleries, or as an art historian official of the Ministry of Culture, or at international facilities).
