New curator at Bolzano's MUSEION: it's Leonie Radine

Leonie Radine is the new curator of the Bolzano MUSEION. She will work with director Bart van der Heide on the conception of the exhibition program and the further development of the collection.

MUSEION - Bolzano Museum of Contemporary Art has a new curator: Leonie Radine, who will work with director Bart van der Heide on the conception of the exhibition program and the further development of the collection. She will be involved in ongoing projects and will present her own exhibitions over the next year.

She studied art history in Marburg and Berlin. From 2010 to 2013, at the KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin, she worked as curatorial assistant to Susanne Pfeffer for exhibitions by Absalon, Wael Shawky, and Cyprien Gaillard. From 2015 to 2022 she worked at Museum Ludwig in Cologne, where she curated the exhibitions Transcorporealities and Hausbesuch, among others, and collaborated with Yilmaz Dziewior on the retrospectives of Haegue Yang and Wade Guyton. In 2018 he curated Flaka Haliti’s exhibition at the National Gallery in Tirana. As a curatorial assistant, she was responsible for Maria Eichhorn’s contribution to the German Pavilion at the 59th Venice Biennale.

“Bolzano is a magical place, and I look forward to continuing to rethink the structure of the museum together with the entire MUSEION team - with the power of art, in interdisciplinary, diverse, sustainable and poetic collectives,” commented Leonie Radine. “Especially in these times of social, political and ecological crisis, responsible, sustainable and prudent action by museums as places of transnational and social understanding is more important than ever. The role of art and culture is essential to lead us on new paths of knowledge production and cognition and to establish community.”

“With Leonie Radine,” said Bart van der Heide, “MUSEION welcomes to its team a curator with considerable experience in exhibition design and institutional practice, as well as a broad international network. Her appointment is an exceptional boost for MUSEION’s content team as it continues to promote its international role and build a new civic profile in South Tyrol. It can be said that MUSEION is still a young institution in terms of museum years. I look forward to starting a new chapter in its development together with talented and visionary people.”
