A fundraiser for a theater dedicated to Paz in the Foggia countryside

Fundraiser launched to transform a site in rural San Severo (Foggia) into a small theater dedicated to Andrea Pazienza

A fundraising campaign was recently launched to transform a historic-archaeological site in the countryside of San Severo, in the province of Foggia, into a small theater dedicated to Andrea Pazienza. The well-known cartoonist and illustrator was in fact linked to San Severo because he spent part of his adolescence here, returning occasionally in later years. “San Severo, city of my thought, where the vine thrives and the winter is quite mild,” so wrote Paz.

The idea came about thanks to Emiliana Palmieri, an entrepreneur from Puglia, to "breathe new life into a place of rare beauty and suggestion like the Casino Masselli,“ a hunting lodge built in the mid-19th century, and ”dedicate it to one of the sons of this land, Paz, one of the greatest authors of illustrated fiction." The goal is to give life to a new cultural structure where “to promote feelings of identity, belonging and aggregation, but also innovation and contemporaneity through the medium of the arts.” A space dedicated to live performance where to support and promote a different cultural offer, as stated in the project related to fundraising; a meeting place between innovation and tradition of the different declinations of artistic language; a permanent training school - a cultural workshop - for theatrical workers, where to transmit skills and protect the knowledge of theatrical craftsmanship in order to promote its valorization: a school that prepares artists and professionals in the performing arts (set and stage designers and machinists, light design and electricians, costume and stage tailors, sound engineers).

The project won Invitalia’s Cultura Crea call for proposals, and many artists are supporting this initiative, including Fabrizio Gifuni, Tosca, Michele Riondino, Luciana Littizzetto, and Vinicio Marchioni.

The operation has a total cost of about 2 million euros: thanks to the call, the Region of Puglia would provide non-repayable funding for 80 percent of the project; for part of the remaining 20 percent, there is a need for the support of the future spectators of the Piccolo Teatro Andrea Pazienza for which crowdfunding has been initiated.
