Cleanup and redevelopment for the Tiberius Bridge. New LED lighting system also planned

The Tiberius Bridge, among the symbols of Rimini, will undergo major cleaning and structural restoration works in the coming months to consolidate the stone materials. An important enhancement intervention, which is repeated after about twenty years, for which a total cost of 600 thousand euros is expected (investment already approved and allocated in the last budget).

The upgrading intervention will be completed with a new LED lighting system, with the intention of enhancing the architecture of the bridge and providinghomogeneous lighting. The design of the new lighting of the Tiberius Bridge, which has long been the focus of a program of interventions for its protection and enhancement, has been entrusted to the Light Company of Florence. In particular, the project plans to provide the bridge with homogeneous lighting, replacing both the dedicated system already present on the upstream side and the outdated light fixtures on the opposite side. The new lighting is intended to emulate the daytime path of natural light by using the same tones of white that are emitted by the sun during the day and the same tilt of shadows. A cyclic sunrise-sunset lighting effect repeated several times throughout the night and differently depending on the side of the bridge: warmer light on the mountain side, lit by the sunset and with a cooler, softer gradient on the sea side. LED technology will be used for this lighting, which will not only enhance the monument but also save energy by limiting consumption.

Both projects will have to be submitted to the Superintendence of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for approval. As for the project for the new lighting, elaborated by the specialized company in agreement with the technical offices of the Municipal Administration, once it is approved with all authorizations, it will be put on the basis of the tender for the implementation of the intervention.

“With these projects,” stresses Public Works Councillor Mattia Morolli, “we intend to continue on the path of enhancing the monument with its bimillennial history and postcard of Rimini in the world. Both through the redevelopment and with the new and modern lighting system and the new coordinated and sustainable illumination, the goal is in fact to continue on the path of enhancing our historical and cultural heritage, exalting the architectural merits of the bridge, begun in 14 AD under Octavian Augustus and completed in 21 AD under Tiberius. A monument considered one of the most important jewels of Roman times in Italy. Interventions that come after the closure of the Bridge to vehicular traffic, returned to pedestrians, and after the creation of the plaza on the water, which transformed the reservoir into a place of meeting and community.”
