Last days to enroll at theFlorence Academy of Fine Arts, where you can choose from sixteen courses of study ranging from visual arts and applied arts to art communication and museum education. Educational offerings include first- and second-level academic diploma courses, equivalent to bachelor’s and master’s degrees, respectively. For the academic year 2024-2025, 690 places are available, accessible by passing an oral admission test.
As for fees, the no tax area is set at 22 thousand euros, exempting students with incomes below this threshold from academic contribution. In addition, Ukrainian students will benefit from a 50 percent reduction on fees again this year, and all those enrolled will be able to compete for scholarships provided by the regional company for the right to study, DSU Toscana. Applications for admission can be submitted online by August 31.
For the first time, three AFAM PhD programs will also be active. As of this year, in fact, the Ministry of Universities and Research allows Conservatories, ISIAs and Academies of Fine Arts to independently award PhD degrees. This historic achievement comes 25 years after the law reformed institutions of Higher Education in Art and Music in 1999, effectively equating them with universities. An unfinished reform, with the third level of university education - the PhD - remaining precluded to AFAMs at least until the issuance of Ministerial Decree 470 on Feb. 21.
For the academic year 2024-2025, the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze was found to be the recipient of six three-year national PhD scholarships, financed with European funds (NextGenerationEU recovery plan). Specifically, two fellowships will be for PNRR PhDs and the remaining four will be awarded to innovative PhDs co-funded by the Ministry of University and Research and cultural institutions. Deadlines for competing for PhD scholarships are differentiated, but all within the first week of September.
There are six scholarships available for the XL doctoral cycle - Afam first cycle (a.y. 2024-2025 / 2025-2026 / 2026-2027) allocated on three different doctoral paths activated in associated form with other Afam institutions. As with PhDs offered by universities, Afam PhDs are entered with a Bachelor’s degree or Second Level Academic Diploma. The duration of the course of study is three years. PNRR PhD in Artistic Production and Heritage Sciences, a fellowship for the Visual Communication Design and Public Utility curriculum. Offered in collaboration with the Academies of Fine Arts of Catania (administrative headquarters), Macerata and Urbino, the ISIA of Faenza and the Catania Conservatory of Music.
PNRR PhD in Visual Arts Culture, Practices and Communication, a fellowship for the curriculum Tools, Methods and New Technologies for Artistic Production. Offered in collaboration with the Academies of Fine Arts of Rome (administrative headquarters) and Frosinone, with the participation of Azienda Speciale Palaexpo and the National Institute of Roman Studies.
Innovative PhD in Art, Technology and Perception, 4 scholarships co-funded by cultural institutions. Offered in collaboration with the “Luigi Cherubini” Conservatory of Music in Florence (administrative headquarters) and ISIA Florence.
