Cultural Heritage Minister Dario Franceschini announced the return to Rome of the Guercino work that had been stolen in Modena.

The"Madonna with Saints John the Evangelist and Gregory the Wonderworker" had been stolen in 2014 from the church of San Vincenzo in Modena and was found in February 2017 in Casablanca with heavy and extensive damage.

It will now remain at theHigher Institute for Conservation and Restoration in Rome for restoration work and then return to Modena.

“Thanks to all the institutions that allowed this important result, which was made possible thanks to the strong synergy and collaboration between all those involved. Thanks in particular to the Carabinieri Command for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, which with this operation confirms itself as an internationally recognized and appreciated excellence,” Franceschini said.
