More than half a million euros for the restoration of San Giusto Abbey in Carmignano

San Giusto Abbey in Carmignano (Prato) has received restoration funds worth 540,000 euros. The work is needed to repair damage sustained in the spring.

Restoration work on the church of San Giusto di Carmignano (Prato) amounts to 540 thousand euros. The abbey found itself with partially collapsed vault due to bad weather this spring and, therefore, needs costly restoration.

To be exact, 500 thousand euros will come from Mibact, another 20 thousand will come from national Fai and Intesa Sanpaolo, the association "The Friends of San Giusto," founded in Carmignano in 2016, will also contribute at least 15 thousand euros to the restoration of San Giusto, while the remaining five thousand euros will be added by the municipal administration of Carmignano. The funding was illustrated at the headquarters of the Tuscany Region in Florence, in the presence of, among others, regional tourism councillor Stefano Ciuoffo and regional councilor Ilaria Bugetti.

The church of San Giusto is one of the most striking Romanesque buildings in the province of Prato; it is located lost in the woods of Prato’s Montalbano and probably dates back to the 12th century. This church denotes influences of Cluniac or otherwise French monastic architecture.
