Shopping center in front of Catajo Castle: there is an online petition

While waiting for Minister Franceschini to answer thequestion on the affair of the construction of the shopping mall in front of the Catajo Castle in the Euganean Hills (to which Windows on Art dedicated an extensive report), the Coordination of Euganean Hills Associations launches an online petition on Change.org, addressed to the mayor of the Municipality of Due Carrare, the president of the Province of Padua, the president of the Veneto Region, the Minister of the Environment, and the Minister of Cultural Heritage.

In the text of the petition, it says that the shopping center, if built, “will destroy forever the extraordinary landscape context of the Euganean Hills,” “will destroy one of the models of development consistent with the territorial context proposed by the Castle,” “will deal a mortal blow to local commerce.” “it will not bring the high employment forecasts flaunted,” “it will not guarantee the host municipality urbanization charges capable of compensating and repaying not even a small part of the environmental and economic damage caused,” and “it will reinforce the logic of devastation produced by financial speculation interventions.” The appeal to administrators therefore calls for a halt to the construction of the mall.
