Tempietto sul Clitunno restored, significant example of early medieval monument in Umbria


Restored the Tempietto sul Clitunno, an early medieval monument in Umbria and a significant example of Lombard art and architecture in Italy.

The Tempietto sul Clitunno, one of the most significant early medieval monuments in Umbria and ofLombard art and architecture in Italy, underwent restoration work involving the sacellum’s frescoes. Security systems and lighting were also overhauled.

The interventions were possible thanks to the contribution of Meccanotecnica Umbra Spa.

The Tempietto sul Clitunno is part, along with other Lombard sites, of the project The Lombards in Italy. Places of Power (568-774 A.D.), included in the prestigious UNESCO World Heritage List.

The presentation and official opening will take place on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at 5 p.m., on the occasion of the European Cultural Heritage Days, in the presence of Alberto Pacifici, president of Meccanotecnica Umbra spa, Mariarosaria Salvatore, former superintendent for the Archaeological Heritage of Umbria, Paola Mercurelli Salari, director of the Tempietto sul Clitunno, and restorer Germana Lolli.
