The Regional Council of Valle d’Aosta approved yesterday, Aug. 30, in an extraordinary convocation, theacquisition of Introd Castle with its furnishings, the adjoining park and appurtenant land, as well as the Granary, used as warehouses, in consideration of the great historical architectural value represented by the monumental complex.

The purchase price of the historic complex was determined at 3 million 650 thousand euros. As defined by the act approved by the Regional Council, the ownership of Introd Castle, once the purchase deed is signed, will pass into the full availability of the Regional Administration from October 30, 2023.

“The approved measure,” said Regional President Renzo Testolin, “is an important step in the enhancement of another primary element of the historical and cultural heritage of the Aosta Valley. Introd Castle thus becomes a public monumental space in which to rediscover evidence of the architectural culture of the late Middle Ages in our region: an ancient dwelling whose value and prestige will be an element of characterization for the municipality of Introd and for the entire Grand Paradis territory, as well as a possible opportunity for a new management and enhancement model.”

Dating back to the 12th century, the castle is characterized by its polygonal shape, due to several modifications that have taken place since the 15th century. Restored by Cavalier Gonella in 1912-1915, who bought it from the Sarriod family of Introd, the castle was completely transformed into its ancient structure, of which only the tower, the ancient kitchen and about 17 meters of the southern perimeter wall remain.
