Members of the Democratic Party on the Parliamentary Oversight Committee for RAI have submitted a question to the company’s CEO seeking clarification on rumors regarding the future of certain cultural programs on the public broadcaster and on editorial decisions that could affectRAI’s radio and television programming.
This initiative follows reports circulating in recent hours regarding the possible cancellation of certain programs considered significant forthe public broadcaster’scultural and in-depthprogramming. Among the programs mentioned are *Riserva Indiana*, hosted by Stefano Massini; *Dilemmi*, hosted by Gianrico Carofiglio; and *Via dei Matti*. Added to these are uncertainties regarding the return of *Caterpillar* to the schedule and rumors involving other long-standing figures at Rai.
According to Democratic Party members of the Supervisory Commission, these are signs that raise serious concerns and require clarification from the company’s top management. For this reason, as explained in a statement released on June 24, a parliamentary question was submitted to RAI’s CEO with the aim of learning what decisions the company intends to make and the reasons behind them.
“We are dealing with programs,” say the PD parliamentarians in the statement, “that have successfully combined quality, in-depth analysis, and public appeal, helping to enrich the cultural and informational offerings of public service broadcasting. Their potential cancellation risks impoverishing editorial pluralism and fueling the perception of a gradual homogenization of radio and television programming. Rai belongs to all citizens and must continue to ensure the exchange of different ideas, voices, and perspectives. This is at the heart of its public service mission. For this reason, we ask the company to clarify its intentions and to reconsider decisions that appear difficult to justify in the general interest of Rai and its users.”
The parliamentary question aims to initiate an institutional discussion on the future of public service programming, with particular attention to safeguarding cultural, news, and in-depth programs, as well as protecting pluralism—one of the founding principles of Rai’s mission.
