The National Museum of Resistance will be born in Milan

Presented by MiBACT Minister Dario Franceschini and Mayor Giuseppe Sala the project of the National Museum of Resistance to be built in the Lombard capital.

A National Museum of Resistance will be born in Milan: this was announced yesterday, Dec. 9, by MiBACT Minister Dario Franceschini and Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala.

The new museum will be located within the municipal area between Via Montello and Via Volta and will be managed by a foundation between the city, MiBACT and the Ferruccio Parri National Institute, with the collaboration of the Lombardy Region.

To build the museum, MiBACT will step in with an investment of 15 million euros, thanks to the remodulation of resources from the Development and Cohesion Fund, to which will be added 2.5 million euros already allocated for the House of Memory in Milan.

“The 15 million is in addition to the 2.5 million already earmarked for the House of Memory and will be used to build the National Museum of Resistance that Milan, a two-time gold medal city, deserves and that represents a project that the country absolutely needs. A much broader intervention than the previous one, which will be accompanied in its implementation by the work of a scientific committee to network local resistance institutions and museums, as well as institutions such as the ANPI. All this to propose a narrative of the liberation struggle capable of restoring the memory of those who fought to give Italy back its freedom, as President Mattarella wished to recall today in the message he sent. I am the son of a young white partisan and I have always carried with me the fear that that memory will be lost. It is therefore important that there be a national place to remind future generations of what our mothers and fathers did to give us the freedom that we take for granted and obvious today, while it is not at all because people gave their lives and youth to obtain it,” said Minister Franceschini.
