NeSpoon's embroidered mural graces a small Calabrian village

Street artist NeSpoon, originally from Warsaw and famous for her embroidered murals, who has made lace her hallmark, created a few days ago in the small Calabrian village of Santa Sofia d’Epiro a splendid embroidery that occupies the entire wall of a building.

The work was created on the occasion of the second edition of Ylberi, an urban redevelopment project born from the collaboration between the Municipality of Santa Sofia d’Epiro and the Rublanum association, promoter of the street art project Gulìa Urbana, a project the latter of which was born in 2012 with the aim of recovering disused or undervalued urban areas through art, in particular with the world of urban culture and street art.

Santa Sofia d’Epiro is one of Italy’s most active Arbereshe communities and is tied to its traditions. Ylberi, which means rainbow in arbereshe, intends to tell the world about its culture and belonging to such an ancient tradition.

“NeSpoon’s work made in Santa Sofia d’Epiro, a small Calabrian village, is a genuine and pure spread of harmony,” reads Gulìa Urbana’s social media. “History, traditions, culture, and Arbereshe customs were, from the very first moment, a source of inspiration for the artistic research that NeSpoon put into making the mural. A work that is in synergy with its surroundings. We are happy and honored to have hosted and curated a short art residency by NeSpoon here in Calabria.
