Tonight, at 9:30 p.m. on Rai1, a special prime-time episode of Ulysses - The Pleasure of Discovery will air, entirely dedicated to the figure of Leonardo da Vinci. Leading the audience on this fascinating journey will be Alberto Angela, who will accompany viewers to discover the life and genius of the great master.
The journey will start in France, in Amboise, where Leonardo spent the last years of his existence. Through places rich in history and Renaissance suggestions, the milestones of his life will be retraced and the genesis of many of his most famous works will be explored in depth, in an attempt to understand the extraordinary personality of a man capable of distinguishing himself as an artist, scientist, inventor, painter, musician, sculptor and architect.
From the castle given to him by the French ruler Francis I, the tale will move to Florence, the city where the young Leonardo began his training in the workshop of Andrea del Verrocchio. In the Tuscan capital, Alberto Angela will accompany the audience to the Uffizi, pausing in the Leonardo Room.
The itinerary will then continue to Milan, the city in which Leonardo lived for seventeen years in the service of Ludovico il Moro. Numerous projects and masterpieces were born in this lively cultural and artistic center, including the famous Last Supper, one of the most admired and visited works of Italian art heritage.
Space will also be devoted to one of the lesser-known aspects of Leonardo’s figure: his deep interest in music. For the occasion, a piece whose lyrics were written by Leonardo da Vinci himself will be performed, originally set to music by Roman Vlad, rearranged now by Fabio Visocchi and performed by singer Giorgia.
Guests of the evening will also include a tribute to Gigi Proietti, an artist whose extraordinary interpretative skills have brought to life characters and atmospheres of the past through memorable readings and performances. Making the event even more special will be the participation of Roberto Benigni. The Tuscan actor will offer a valuable contribution to the story of Leonardo’s life, giving the audience a moment of great intensity.
Ulysses, the pleasure of discovery is also online at RaiPlay.it and is a program by Alberto Angela written with Aldo Piro, Fabio Buttarelli, Ilaria Degano, Barbara Gallavotti, Vito Lamberti, and Emilio Quinto. Edited by Lucia Madia, Caterina Del Papa. Executive producer Anna Maria Tiberi. Directed by Gabriele Cipollitti.
