MudaC Carrara case, Ministry grants extension on tender won. Municipality wants clarification

The Ministry of Culture grants an extension to the Municipality of Carrara to make sure that the city of marble does not lose the 61-thousand-euro grant for Francesco Bartoli's work Sculpting the Wind. The municipality, however, asks for clarification from artist and scientific referee.

The Municipality of Carrara is still on time to accept the 61,150-euro grant for the creation of Francesco Bartoli’s work Sculpting the Wind , a work that won the Ministry of Culture ’s PAC 2021 call for bids as part of the production of new artworks for contemporary art museums (Bartoli’s work would enrich the collection of the MudaC - Museo delle Arti Carrara). However, the deadline for acceptance expired on September 4, and the municipality had not formalized acceptance(we reconstructed the story in this article). The MiC has in fact granted an extension until September 30.

In recent weeks, the municipality says, the dialogue between the municipal administration and the Ministry of Culture has been constant regarding Francesco Bartoli’s project and the possibility of accepting funding for its implementation at MudaC.

Written confirmation from Rome arrived at City Hall last Tuesday that the municipality has been granted an extension until next September 30 to arrive at a final choice. The administration is now asking the artist and the director of MudaC, Laura Barreca (who is the scientific referent of the project) for the information, on economic and organizational aspects, that may be useful in making a decision, and which we recalled in Monday’s article.

“Last September 20,” they explain from the administration, “came the communication from the ministry of an extension of an additional ten days, so until September 30, to confirm or not our decision on the acceptance of funding. Through the offices we thus immediately got in touch with Director Barreca and Bartoli himself, asking them to provide us with some details regarding the project. These are all aspects that do not concern the content of the work, but rather the economic and organizational sphere. Specifically, we asked the artist and the museum director four questions: what institutions are involved in the art project? What roles and functions do the individuals and institutions involved have? How will the money resources allocated by the Ministry be allocated in detail? In the case of the implementation of a participatory process, how, with what burdens and timeframe will the municipality be involved? We are now waiting for Barreca and Bartoli’s answers to the Ministry, in time to be able to respond, in the hope, in this way, that we will be able to obtain all the clarifications necessary to welcome the project, thus starting its implementation.”
