After 20 years, the Museo San Pietro in Colle di Val d'Elsa reopens.

The Museo San Pietro in Colle di Val d'Elsa reopens after 20 years with a new chronologically paced itinerary and all-new layouts.

A 20-year wait is coming to an end: today, Saturday, March 18, at 11:30 a.m. the new Museo San Pietro in Colle di Val d’Elsa, the town in the province of Siena known for being the birthplace of one of the greatest architects and sculptors of the Middle Ages, Arnolfo di Cambio, reopened to the public. The museum was born from the fusion of four collections: that of the Civic and Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art, the Collection of the Conservatory of St. Peter and the Monastery of St. Catherine and Magdalene, the Romano Bilenchi Collection, and the Walter Fusi Collection.

The exhibition itinerary of the San Pietro Museum focuses on the history and art of Colle val d’Elsa, from the 6th century to the present day, with particular regard to the Colle of the second half of the 16th century, when it became an episcopal seat. The itinerary is marked chronologically and emphasized by different visual directions, with modern layouts that are nonetheless respectful of the place that houses the collections, the ancient monastery of San Pietro. The layout was designed by the Archdiocese of Siena, the Municipality of Colle di Val d’Elsa and the Sienese Museums Foundation in collaboration with the Superintendence for the provinces of Siena, Grosseto and Arezzo and with contributions from Ales Spa, the Region of Tuscany and the Monte dei Paschi di Siena Foundation.

The museum, the management of which is entrusted to Civita-Opera, will follow these hours: from March 1 to Oct. 31, daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. From Nov. 1 to Dec. 25, only Saturdays and Sundays from 3 to 5 p.m. From Dec. 26 to Jan. 6, daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. From Jan. 9 to Feb. 28, closed period. Admission costs 6 euros (including audioguide), and there are reductions (4 euros) for children from 6 to 12 years old and school groups, and free admission for the disabled, children under 6, residents of the municipality of Colle di Val d’Elsa and students of city schools.
