Alessandro Preziosi plays Vincent van Gogh at the theater in Milan. Through Dec. 2

Until Dec. 2, Alessandro Preziosi is in the theater in Milan to take on the role of Vincent van Gogh in a play by Stefano Massini.

From November 15 to December 2, 2018 at the Manzoni Theater in Milan is the show Vincent van Gogh. The Deafening Smell of White, by Stefano Massini. Playing the role of the great Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh (Zundert, 1853 - Auvers-sur-Oise, 1890) will be Alessandro Preziosi, who has a long series of theater, television and film experiences under his belt (the last historical character he played was Filippo Brunelleschi in the first season of the series I Medici). Preziosi notably plays van Gogh during his time in the Saint-Paul de Mausole nursing home, in one of the most difficult moments of his existence. An interpretation with which Preziosi, he explained to Ansa, would like to “succeed in making people understand not so much who Van Gogh was as an artist, but Van Gogh as a man with respect to his art. There was in him a deep and very rooted concept, almost a faith” of art.

All information can be found on the Manzoni Theater website. Below is the synopsis of the show: "How can a great painter live in a place where there is no color but white, in the devastating neutrality of a void? It is 1889 and Vincent’s only desire is to get out of the austere walls of the asylum of Saint Paul. Vincent Van Gogh - l’odore assordante del bianco is a kind of psychological thriller signed by Stefano Massini, whose dry and sharp dramaturgy, yet rich in poetic insights, offers considerable opportunities for reflection around the theme of artistic creativity, leaving the viewer with bated breath from beginning to end. The tight dialogue between Van Gogh, played by an intense Alessandro Preziosi, and his brother Theo, offers not only a broad look at the artist’s human story, but also reveals a submerged stage. Director Alessandro Maggi is entrusted with the task of modulating the infinite and intrinsic variables of this touching text."
