Heritage Days: free guided tours and special evening opening at the Uffizi and Accademia Gallery


On the occasion of Heritage Days, September 21 and 22, 2019, the Uffizi Galleries and the Accademia Gallery are offering free guided tours and evening openings

On the occasion of the Heritage Days promoted by MiBACT, on Saturday, September 21, 2019, the Uffizi Galleries and the Accademia Gallery will be open extraordinarily from 7 to 10 p.m. (with last entry at 9:05 p.m.) at the symbolic cost of one euro. There will also be special initiatives: at the Uffizi there will be a gudata tour to discover the Grotesques that decorate the ceilings of the corridors, while at the Accademia, museum coordinator Angelo Tartuferi will give a lecture from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the late Gothic works in the museum’s premises.

In the Uffizi’sVasari Auditorium, the exhibition All the Emperor’s Men is scheduled to open with free admission (8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.) and free guided tours of the exhibition.

The Palatine Gallery at Palazzo Pitti, on the other hand, offers free accompanied tours to the Grand Duke Ferdinand I’s communal kitchen, while at the Boboli Gardens free accompanied tours to Madama’s Grotticina. Lastly, the Museum of Fashion and Costume is organizing free accompanied tours to admire the astronomical instrument of the sundial and the rooms of the Medici garments.

Free guided tours will also be provided at the Accademia Gallery: on Saturday, Sept. 21, visitors will admire the frescoes in the Accademia Gallery created by Giotto, Giottino and Pontormo with Angelo Tartuferi, and in the afternoon there will be an educational activity for children by Graziella Cirri; on Sunday, Sept. 22, visitors will explore 16th-century painting with Donatella Fratini.
