Six special openings at the Royal Palace of Caserta to visit the Samnite Tombs

In December, the Royal Palace of Caserta is offering six special openings to visit the Samnite Tombs after more than a decade.

After more than a decade, the Samnite Tombs will reopen in the Royal Palace of Caserta during six extraordinary openings of the archaeological site.

Visitors, exclusively on these occasions, will be able to access the basement of the Royal Palace of Caserta: leaving the bright baroque rooms of the Vanvitellian Complex, we will enter a primitive place that preserves seven tufa chest tombs dating back to the second half of the 4th century B.C. C., which find comparisons in the Capuan area and in some of the Neapolitanhinterland. It will also be possible to observe the unearthed bone remains, particularly those of a skull and skeleton, and part of the grave goods.

The first special opening will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2019 from 5 to 7 p.m.; it will continue on December 15, 19, 22, 26 and 29, also from 5 to 7 p.m.

During the guided tours for groups of 25 people, it will be possible to admire the necropolis that came to light in 1990, during excavation work carried out in the second courtyard of the Palace. There will be two rounds of tours for each day, one at 5 p.m., the other at 6 p.m. Reservations are required by connecting to tombesannitiche12december2019.eventbrite.it. Participation in the guided tours is part of the regular cost of admission to the Royal Palace of Caserta.
