The Circus Maximo Experience, an immersive augmented reality and virtual tour of the history of Circus Maximus, returns

The Circus Maximo Experience returns from Oct. 31 to Dec. 30, 2021: the immersive augmented and virtual reality visit to the largest performing arts building in antiquity.

From Oct. 31 to Dec. 30, 2021, it will be possible to relive the history of the Circus Maximus through the Circus Maximo Experience, an immersive augmented and virtual reality visit to the largest performing arts building of antiquity and among the largest of all time. The project is promoted by Roma Culture, Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali, organized by Zètema Progetto Cultura and implemented by GS NET Italia and Inglobe Technologies; scientific direction is by the Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali.

Tours will be held on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:05 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. (last admission), except for the first Sundays of the month (Nov. 7 and Dec. 5) and Christmas. With the same schedule, you can also participate in the immersive visit on Wednesday, Dec. 8, and on Dec. 21-22-23 and 28-29-30.

Thanks to augmented and virtual reality, visitors will be able to fully immerse themselves in the history of the archaeological site by viewing architectural and landscape reconstructions along all its historical phases: from the first wooden construction to the splendor of the imperial age, from the Middle Ages to the first decades of the 20th century. One will see the ancient Murcia Valley enriched with buildings, stroll through the Circus among the stores of the time, witness a chariot race amid shouts of incitement and chariot overturns, until standing in front of the Arch of Titus, about twenty meters high, reconstructed in augmented reality and full-scale.

The narration is available in Italian (with the voices of actors Claudio Santamaria and Iaia Forte), English, French, German, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, and Japanese. Simplified subtitle versions in Italian or English are available for the hearing-impaired.

The immersive visit lasts about 40 minutes, is itinerant and takes place within the archaeological area on an eight-stage route using specific viewers, sanitized and bagged after each use. In compliance with Covid-19 prevention measures, each visitor will also be given individually bagged disposable earphones and a breather visor on which to place the special viewer. There is a quota entrance to the area (max 10 people per 15 minutes).

Tickets can be pre-purchased online at www.circomaximoexperience.it or at the 060608 contact center (operating daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.). They can also be purchased on the spot, if available, after filling out a master card with the visitor’s personal data, and at Tourist Infopoints. Reduced entrance fee provided for MIC card and Roma Pass holders.

Circus Maximo Experience ticket: Full 12 euros, reduced 10 euros; family rate 22 euros (two adults + children under 18).
