Two years after his death, a series of study days in tribute to Germano Celant

Thematic Study Days dedicated to the career of Germano Celant, two years after his death, will kick off on September 13, 2022 at the National Academy of San Luca.

On Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2022, at 5 p.m., Studio Celant and theAccademia Nazionale di San Luca will present Germano Celant in Perspective, the first thematic Study Day in Rome at Palazzo Carpegna, which is part of the project Germano Celant. Cronistoria di un critico militante, dedicated to the great art critic and historian two years after his death. The project is the result of a proposal by the Accademia Nazionale di San Luca, curated by Studio Celant, with the involvement of Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea, Centro per l’arte contemporanea Luigi Pecci, Fondazione Donnaregina per le arti contemporanee - Museo Madre, Fondazione Giorgio Cini, Fondazione Prada, MAXXI - Museo nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo, and Triennale Milano.

The thematic Study Days, which will kick off on September 13 with a round table at the Accademia Nazionale di San Luca and will continue until April 2023 with meetings dedicated to the birth ofArte Povera (at the Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Contemporary Art), exhibition layouts and exhibition method (at Triennale Milano and Fondazione Prada), Italian and international critical activity (at Madre), dialogue with architectural language (at MAXXI), the methodology of thearchives, catalogs raisonné and monographs (at the Luigi Pecci Center for Contemporary Art) up to relations with Venetian institutions (at the Giorgio Cini Foundation), are open to the public and are intended to retrace Celant’s intense career, but also to create the premises for developing anin-depth reflection on his work, thanks to the participation of artists, critics, architects, collectors, curators, and directors of institutions with whom the art historian and critic has collaborated in over fifty years of work.

All the interventions of the Study Days will be collected, at the conclusion of the program, in a single volume, published by Skira.

“Germano Celant, a seismographer of the telluric movements that swept through society and art contemporary to him, was its interpreter and protagonist,” said Marco Tirelli, vice president of the Accademia Nazionale di San Luca, explaining the motivations and spirit of the initiative. “Of course we are left with the evidence of his formidable activity, but today what are the signs, the indications, the legacies he leaves us? Are contemporary art and its system projections of a path indicated by him or not?”
