Ancient art at Palazzo Altemps meets the works of Fornasetti

On display at Palazzo Altemps until May 6, 2018 are Fornasetti's fantastic, playful and dreamlike works.

Through May 6, 2018, the exhibition"Practical Quotations. Fornasetti at Palazzo Altemps."

The collection and spaces of Palazzo Altemps, which is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its opening to the public, will be confronted with the twenty-seven artistic incursions made by more than eight hundred works by Fornasetti. A confrontation is created between the museum’s collection of ancient art and Fornasetti’s fantastic, playful and dreamlike inventions with a surrealist spirit.

The sculptural group of the"Galata Suicida,“ for example, sits in a theater set against a backdrop depicting the work ”Practical Madness," or a colony of ceramic cats crouches on the remains of ancient walls.

The exhibition route and installations are designed by Barnaba Fornasetti and Valeria Manzi, in collaboration with Triennale Design Museum in Milan. The exhibition is curated by Silvana Annicchiarico and Alessandra Capodiferro and is promoted by the National Roman Museum with Electa.
