At the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid, the first monographic exhibition in a museum by Anna Weyant

From July 15 to October 12, 2025, the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid will host the first museum monograph of Canadian artist Anna Weyant.

The Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid will present from July 15 to October 12, 2025, the first monographic exhibition hosted in a museum by Canadian artist Anna Weyant (Calgary, 1995), curated by Guillermo Solana in close collaboration with the artist, with the support of the Gagosian Gallery. The exhibition, which is part of the exhibition program dedicated to the Blanca and Borja Thyssen-Bornemisza collection, presents about twenty of her most recent works.

Weyant’s paintings are distinguished by a wealth of artistic references ranging from the Baroque to the first half of the 20th century, eras also well represented in the Madrid museum’s collections. His works will be placed in direct dialogue with a selection of paintings from the permanent collection to create a visual and conceptual comparison between past and present.

Famous for her depictions of young women, Weyant builds a pictorial universe suspended between everyday reality and dreamlike imagery, adopting a figurative style deeply rooted in the pictorial tradition. Her iconography, at once mysterious and allusive, recalls elements of contemporary American pop culture and the artistic currents of the interwar period, particularly Surrealism.

The exhibition is on view from July 15 to August 31, Mondays from 12 to 4 p.m. (free access); Tuesdays to Fridays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. (free access from 9 to 11 p.m.); and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
