From Sept. 20 to Dec. 13, 2025, Repetto Gallery will host the exhibition Giorgio Morandi and Beyond at its Lugano location, which invites reflection on the work of Bolognese painter Giorgio Morandi, presenting the public with a selection of his works side by side with works by modern and contemporary artists. The exhibition offers a direct and articulated comparison between Morandi’s production and that of a series of artistic figures who, through different languages and approaches, dialogue with his poetics.
About thirty works by Morandi are on display, including a dozen paintings ranging from landscapes to still lifes to flowers, representative of his different creative phases. Alongside these, the exhibition presents ten drawings and ten etchings made by the artist between 1915 and 1963, thus offering a broad spectrum of his artistic activity and stylistic evolution.
The termBeyond in the title of the exhibition recalls the curatorial intention to go beyond the figure of Morandi, exploring the relationships his work has with that of other artists selected in collaboration with the gallery. The aim is to highlight qualities and suggestions that emerge from the comparison between Morandi’s universe and contemporary or modern interpretations of nearby or complementary themes and languages.
The selection of artists invited to participate in the exhibition includes prominent names from the Italian and international art scene: Pier Paolo Calzolari, Gianni Caravaggio, Peter Dreher, Luigi Ghirri, David Hockney, Gianfranco Ferroni, Osvaldo Licini, Ben Nicholson, Salvo, Sean Scully and Franco Vimercati. Each of these authors contributes to the construction of a multi-layered dialogue capable of returning a complex and articulated reading of Morandi’s influence and the declinations of his poetics throughout the twentieth century and beyond.
