From Gianna Nannini to Debbie Harry, music muses photographed by Guido Harari on display


Until Aug. 31, Guido Harari's portraits of great singers are on display in Locorotondo: from Loredana Bertè to Debbie Harry, Mia Martini to Siouxsie Sioux, Gianna Nannini to Whitney Houston.

Guido Harari, among Italy’s most celebrated music photographers, returns to the Locus festival in Locorotondo (Bari), following the success of the Sonica exhibition in 2020. MUSE is the name of a new special project, exclusively premiering at Locus, which will showcase a selection of famous female portraits from Harari’s impressive photographic archive until August 31.

The exhibition, organized by Bass Culture srl and theAssociazione Il Tre Ruote Ebbro in collaboration with the Locorotondo City Council, will be inaugurated in the presence of the author at a public meeting on July 31 at 6 p.m. in Locorotondo’s Piazza Aldo Moro and will continue for the duration of the festival until Aug. 31.

Portraits of Patti Smith, Nina Simone, Joni Mitchell, Laurie Anderson, Fatoumata Diawara, Tina Turner, Kate Bush, Joan Baez, Skin, Beth Gibbons, Debbie Harry, Sade, Whitney Houston, Nina Hagen with Lene Lovich, Miriam Makeba, Annie Lennox, Sinead O’Connor, Mavis Staples, Patty Pravo, Gianna Nannini, Tracy Chapman, Mercedes Sosa, Mia Martini, Alice, Carmen Consoli, Rickie Lee Jones, Suzanne Vega, Noa, Loredana Bertè, Milva, Cristina Donà, Siouxsie Sioux, Ute Lemper, Marianne Faithfull are just a few of the 40 or so images that will be on display, printed in a special red-gold color scheme, along a route through the beautiful historic center of Locorotondo, on the characteristic whitewashed walls of traditional houses.

Guido Harari himself will also lead a photography workshop entitled SEEING THE MUSIC, LISTENING TO THE IMAGES - What and how to communicate through music portraits.

Many works will be juxtaposed with a QR code, which through users’ digital devices will allow listening to stories and music related to the artist portrayed, in a podcast produced for MUSE by Guido Harari with the narrating voice of actress Licia Lanera.

Guido Harari established himself in the early 1970s as a photographer and music journalist. Over time he also explored and deepened reportage, institutional portraiture, advertising, and fashion. Numerous record covers signed for international artists such as Kate Bush, David Crosby, Bob Dylan, B.B. King, Ute Lemper, Paul McCartney, Lou Reed, Simple Minds, and Frank Zappa. In Italy, he has collaborated mainly with Claudio Baglioni, Andrea Bocelli, Paolo Conte, Pino Daniele, Fabrizio De André, Mia Martini, Gianna Nannini, Luciano Pavarotti, PFM, Vasco Rossi, and the La Scala Philharmonic.

Numerous illustrated books and exhibitions to his credit. He was among the curators of the major multimedia exhibition on Fabrizio De André, produced by Palazzo Ducale in Genoa, and the exhibition Art Kane. Visionary for the Galleria civica in Modena and Made in Cloister in Naples.

In 2011 he opened a photography gallery(Wall Of Sound Gallery) and a publishing house of catalogs and limited edition volumes(Wall Of Sound Editions) in Alba, where he has resided for years, both entirely dedicated to the imagery of music.
