HELP the ocean: an installation at the Roman Forum for a cry of alarm about our planet

From June 9 to July 29, 2018, one can admire, especially at night, the large installation HELP the ocean at the Roman Forum in Rome.

From June 9 to July 29, 2018, the Colosseum Archaeological Park at the Imperial Forum in Rome will host the light installation"HELP the ocean."

The work, created by artist Maria Cristina Finucci with the promotion of the Colosseum Archaeological Park and the support of the Bracco Foundation, will be placed on the remains of the Basilica Giulia in the Roman Forum.

Consisting of a set of wire mesh gabions covered with an embroidery of six million colored plastic mats, the installation intends to raise a cry of alarm about the state of our planet.

“A cry of alarm that is not limited to the albeit important environmental issue, but focuses on the individual and the entire life on the planet, in which the environment is inextricably linked to natural resources, health, food, poverty, inequality, human rights, and peace,” said the artist.

The work aims to raise awareness of the issue of pollution of the seas, which are poisoned by plastic and garbage, and is part of the cycle, which the artist kicked off in 2013 with the founding of a new federal state, the Garbage Patch State, the second largest state in the world at 16 million square kilometers, encompassing the five major plastic “islands” in the oceans.

Only a bird’s-eye view of the installation will allow one to notice that the latter forms the word HELP, which lights up at night, thanks to ENEL X.
