From October 11, 2025 to February 8, 2026, Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara will host a major exhibition dedicated to Marc Chagall (Vitebsk, 1887 - Saint-Paul de Vence, 1985). Chagall, Witness of His Time, this is the title of the exhibition curated by Paul Schneiter and Francesca Villanti and promoted by Fondazione Ferrara Arte and Arthemisia, is proposed as an exhibition of intense emotional power that invites visitors to explore the poetic universe of one of the most beloved artists of the 20th century.
The exhibition will display about 200 works including paintings, drawings and etchings and will be enhanced by two immersive rooms that will allow visitors to experience Chagall’s art in a spectacular and immersive way. A visionary, multifaceted artist and a profound interpreter of his time, capable of recounting beauty and cherishing memory, his art is characterized by split faces, mirrored portraits, repeated profiles: the theme of the double becomes the tool with which the artist expresses the complexity of the human soul. Also, flying couples, fantastic animals, explosive flowers: images that transcend reality to become universal symbols.
Through his poetic vision, Chagall transforms personal experiences into collective reflections, demonstrating how behind the apparent simplicity of his works lie universal themes such as identity, spirituality, exile and the joy of living. In an increasingly fragmented world, Chagall reminds us that art can act as a bridge between different cultures, uniting distant traditions and reflecting the dreams, conflicts and desires of human beings. His artistic production shapes an emotional truth that makes the deepest feelings palpable, lifting the soul and finding glimmers of peace and hope even in the horrors of history.
