The Italian premiere of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year arrives at the Fortress of Bard


The Fortress of Bard hosts the Italian premiere of the 53rd Wildlife Photographer of the Year from February 16 to June 10, 2018.

From February 16 to June 10, the Fortress of Bard will host theItalian premiere of the 53rd Wildlife Photographer of the Year.

One hundred images taken in 2017 that depict nature in all its spectacularity will be presented here: breathtaking landscapes, animals, underwater worlds.

The winning photos from the sixteen categories of the award, selected from more than 50 thousand shots from 92 countries around the world, will be presented to visitors, in addition to the overall winner, South African Brent Stirton, with his shot"Memorial to a species" in which he immortalized a rhino that had just been shot and mutilated of its horn.

Winner of the Youth category was Dutchman Daniël Nelson, who depicted a lying gorilla happily eating a bread tree fruit.

There were five Italians honored: Stefano Unterthiner, who won two awards as a finalist in The Wildlife Photojournalist Award: Story and Urban Wildlife categories; Ekaterina Bee, winner in the 10 Years and under category; Marco Urso, finalist in the Behaviour category; Hugo Wasserman, finalist in the Urban Wildlife category; and Angiolo Manetti, finalist in the Earth’s Environments category.
